Stand Firm

Today I read the FB post of Natalie Grant, the Grammy award nominee for Best Gospel/ Contemporary Christian music. She went to the Grammys; however, she walked out of the ceremony before the end of it. This triggered a host of critique this week. Speculations in the social media were centered on her reasons for leaving. People speculated that this was related to her Christian position.

I don’t know why Nathalie Grant walked out of the Grammy Awards ceremonies. During the event she had the privilege to be entertained by Beyoncé and her husband in a hot… hot, (did I say HOT?) show.

Queen Latifah was also present. Not for the entertainment alone but surprisingly in the role of …a reverend. (Yes, you heard it correctly, reverend, as in church.) She actually officiated the vows for thirty tree couples that night, right on the stage in the middle of a Grammy show! What a brilliant way to promote the gay agenda. How many millions where watching?

And if that was not enough Nathalie and her husband were exposed to another bold part of the awards. A witch-ritual performed by Katy Perry (In a crystal ball) complete with a circle of fire, four horned figures (looking like demons), and a witch-broom. This whole spectacle had a satanic undertone. Her song said: “She cast spells from crystal balls. Invoking spirits. She put me in a trance.”

This is what the organizers of the Grammys call “entertainment.”

You don’t need to be a Christian to feel appalled by this kind of entertainment. Neither is it really important what exactly triggered Natalie into leaving. Most important is that she DID take a stand. She dared to do what she believed in. (And received her share of critique for it.) Good for you Nathalie Grant for walking out. Jesus is your Grammy!

We all need to learn to take a stand for what we believe in, even when it cost us. Let me tell you what happened last Saturday. I attended a conference and brought my 9-year daughter along. The conference provided a sports camp so she was excited to be a part of it.

All went smooth at first, but soon after the first half of the conference, an upset, tearing girl came to me: “Mom this is not fair! They are playing Zombies. And when I told them that Zombies are not good for Christians to play they asked me to sit this game out!”

Tearful she told me her story in the hallway. One of the other bigger guys came up with the game and bullied the rest to play it. One child (The Zombie) was supposed to run around with a “make believe” knife and stabbing the other kids. If you were stabbed in the heart you were “Out”. Even while looking at my daughter’s tears and frustration, my mother’s heart was proud. She took a stand. She stood up for what she believed and she was willing to pay the price for it.

Two of her friends walked out of the gym a couple of minutes later. They reflected and made a decision against playing too.

Thank you, Natalie Grant for showing kids how to stand firm. I am proud of them, as I am proud of Natalie Grant.

Most of our kids love music. And now, we, as parents, know an artist that has her heart in the right place. No Beyoncé for our kids. I will buy Nathalie Grant’s songs because now I know she is in this to please Jesus, just like I am.
